Loved this, Paola. I saw The Potato Eaters at the Kröller- Müller Museum in the Netherlands a few years ago. It was my first time seeing his darker works before he went to Paris and started incorporating the colors he is now known for. It was quite a juxtaposition in the museum to see the contrasts.

It was wonderful to read this discussion of all of his food still life paintings, I hadn’t realized there were so many. Thank you.

I enjoyed this post. Van Gogh is one of my favorite painters because of how he used light. He would paint the same scene at different times of the day to capture the changing lighting conditions. The lighting is fantastic in the paintings you chose.
