Though most of us associate Van Gogh with his Sunflowers, Wheatfield with Crows, Starry Night and numerous self-portraits, the artist also produced a variety of food-related paintings.
Loved this, Paola. I saw The Potato Eaters at the Kröller- Müller Museum in the Netherlands a few years ago. It was my first time seeing his darker works before he went to Paris and started incorporating the colors he is now known for. It was quite a juxtaposition in the museum to see the contrasts.
It was wonderful to read this discussion of all of his food still life paintings, I hadn’t realized there were so many. Thank you.
I am so happy to read you enjoyed the post, Mary. Seeing his work in real life is such an amazing experience. I am still deeply touched every time I stand before one of his paintings.
I enjoyed this post. Van Gogh is one of my favorite painters because of how he used light. He would paint the same scene at different times of the day to capture the changing lighting conditions. The lighting is fantastic in the paintings you chose.

So happy to read you enjoyed it! Van Gogh is also one of my favorite painters. The use of light and the emotion in his work is phenomenal.
Thank you for this ~ it surprised me and at the same time I was fascinated with this short story of Van Gogh .
His use of colors ~(Hello , Art History 101) and other details often overlooked perhaps.

More of this please .
